February 21, 2012 Meeting

Strategies for Protecting Ecosystems At Home
*Turn off water when brushing teeth (3 gal/day)
*Fix leaky faucets (20 gal/day)
*Wash only full loads of clothes (15-50 gal/load)
*Water our yards before 8am (25 gal/day)
*Use a broom instead of hose to clean driveways and sidewalks (150 gal/each time)
*Check sprinkler systems for leaks, over sprays and broken sprinkler heads (500 gal/month)
*Use organic mulch around plants (Hundreds of gal/year)

Gardening for Cut Flowers
Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc.
District 1 - Education Series
Southwind Garden Club had a great showing at the
third in a series of Education Seminars held at the
Memphis Botantical Gardens. Coffee and Refreshments
were provided for a social time before the presentation.
We had 10 members attend and included were new
members of the Southwind Garden Club. Good for them!
Everyone who attended learned something new with
the great tips shared with us.
In case you were not able to attend following will be
the slides that had been presented by the UT Extension.
